What time is it?! It's BREAKFAST CLUB TIME! :dummy:

Dunno how to word this description, so...I'll try my best here.

Awhile ago last month my dad put on this song, "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds while I was cleaning the living room: [link] . And anyone who's old enough to remember the 1985 John Hughes-directed classic movie The Breakfast Club ([link])...well that's the ending theme song that became the movie's soundtrack. It kind of inspired me to cross over the movie's characters with characters from the hit Cartoon Network show Adventure Time ([link]). It just kind of seemed like a good fit, even if I don't actually watch the show myself. If you're not familiar with the movie, Wikipedia summarizes the film as "The Breakfast Club is a 1985 American coming of age comedy-drama film written and directed by John Hughes. The storyline follows five teenagers (each a member of a different high school clique) as they spend a Saturday in detention together and come to realize that they are all deeper than their respective stereotypes." And considering I absolutely love crossovers of any sort and my penchant for crossing over different series and franchises in the past in my illustrations, well, it seemed like a fun idea to do.

Here we have, from left to right:

Marshall Lee the Vampire King as John Bender (originally played by Judd Nelson)
Marceline the Vampire Queen as Allison Reynolds (originally played by Ally Sheedy)
Finn the Human as Andrew "Andy" Clark (originally played by Emilio Estevez)
Fionna the Human as Claire Standish (originally played by Molly Ringwald)
Prince Gumball as Brian Johnson (originally played by Anthony Michael Hall)

The composition itself is based in tribute to this cast photo from the movie: [link]

The style is mixed with the Adventure Time style but given more "realistic" body and limb proportions, and I also let Finn's hair stick out a bit of his signature hat he always wears just to kind of make him fit in more with the rest of the gang. They're all wearing the same clothes the characters from the movie are wearing, with the slight exception of Marshall Lee wearing his own plaid shirt he already wears (and coincidentally it was Marshall Lee's resemblance in appearance in my mind to John Bender that actually sparked the crossover idea for this project). It actually came off pretty easy trying to pick which characters from the show would make it into this project that would match up with the five characters from the movie. The outlines look better than usual all thanks to a great and generous person, :iconpendella:, who was kind enough to ink my original sketch with her exceptional skills for free. Took long enough to finish in GIMP especially since this is one of the only few completed drawings I've ever done that features more than one character but it felt worthwhile in the end.

There's multiple versions of this, all of which can be found at the following links:

Anyway, that's about it. Wouldn't of went with such a long description but I felt like it needed some kind of explaining in case others aren't too familiar with either part of the crossover.

Hope you enjoy. :)

Yeah, it's one of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Bender reminded me so much of my best friend in high school XD

He's what kind of got me to do this drawing, since he reminded me so much of the character from Adventure Time that he's representing here. =P

I don't know if you saw my last post on this, but if you have the time, you should draw Marshall Lee in Bender's legendary pose from the end of Breakfast Club, since it's such an iconic moment in the movie, and basically the part everyone remembers when the movie's mentioned

I had actually thought about that, and that was my original plan before I drew this instead. I figured it could be fun to include more characters from the show into the whole gang's roles from the movie. Still, if I'm ever bored I'll think about it. :b No guarantee though.

Also, you don't have to, but it would be awesome if you drew Marshall Lee doing Bender's legendary pose from the end of the Breakfast Club film; that would be the coolest thing ever in my opinion!

i only watched the first season of adventure time and i've never seen breakfast club, so i cannot judge how much those characters fit, but i do like the way you used textures in this picture. you did a great job on the clothes and the background is simple, yet fits very well and the characters stand out nicely. it looks as if they've made out of paper or some sort. xD i think it was also a good decision to not use shadings and have simple textures. you should draw in that style more often!

and by the way: sorry that i haven't answered the comments you gave me, but i hope that you know how much i appreciate them and how happy they make me!
